AB 656: 50,000-strong and growing

Last week, our movement to save California’s colleges and universities reached a crucial milestone.

With your help, AB 656 – the bill I introduced to make Big Oil pay their fair share to raise over $2 billion to fund higher education – surpassed 50,000 supporters through grassroots signature gathering and our online petition.

I was the first person in my family to go to college. And I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to attend the UC system. I believe, passionately, that no student should ever be turned away because they cannot afford higher tuition fees. And now, with the help of over 50,000 people like you, we will increase access to quality and affordable higher education for all.

California Federation of Teachers Endorsement

I was both honored and humbled last month when the 120,000 member-strong California Federation of Teachers endorsed my candidacy for Attorney General. With over 135 local union chapters, CFT represents the men and women who educate our students from Head Start to the University of California. Their endorsement of my candidacy for Attorney General – one of the many endorsements from last month – is a reminder of the effort it takes to educate our students and an inspiration to continue fighting to save our colleges and universities. See our growing list of endorsements here.

Action Alert

From now until February 23, supporters from all over California are engaging their families, friends and neighbors by gathering signatures in-lieu of our candidate filing fee. Collecting thousands of signatures signatures from registered voters is no easy task. Yet, as with our efforts for AB 656, our campaign thrives when we rely on people like you. We know, with your help, our goal will be attained.

If you can help, please contact my campaign manager, Rudy Gonzalves, who will send you our petition at Rudy@AlbertoTorrico.com or 818-201-8455.

It’s a Dead Heat

The latest campaign finance reports for all major candidates running for Attorney General showed a virtual dead heat in cash on hand. Our campaign, however, is leading the way as public safety’s choice for Attorney General with support from the 62,000-member Peace Officers Research Association of California and the 30,000-member California Professional Firefighters. Help us continue our momentum by contributing what you can right now. Please visit my ActBlue page here.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Alberto
