California Faculty Association Endorses Torrico for Attorney General


Torrico has emerged as the AG candidate with the strongest coalition of 
education, labor and public safety support

 

SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Faculty Association announced that it has given Alberto Torrico its sole-endorsement for Attorney General. CFA represents over 23,000 professors, librarians, counselors, coaches and other California State University faculty at over 23 campuses. It is the latest addition to the strongest and broadest coalition of education, labor and public safety support for any candidate in the Attorney General race.

“The members of the CFA – the same people who hold the responsibility of nurturing the next generation of California’s leadership – recognize that education is the key to our future and public safety,” said Torrico. “With the help of the CFA and the growing coalition of education, labor and public safety support, as Attorney General, I will ensure that access to a quality education becomes a civil right for all Californians.”

Alberto Torrico is the author of AB 656, the “Fair Share for Fair Tuition” bill that will raise $2 billion a year for higher education by charging Big Oil an extraction fee. AB 656 has gained over 75,000 supporters through a statewide organizing drive and has nearly 12,000 supporters on Facebook alone – making it one of the most successful grassroots efforts in California’s legislative history.

“The 23,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches of the California State University system are proud to endorse Alberto Torrico for Attorney General,” said Lillian Taiz, President of the California Faculty Association. “His tireless work to save our state’s colleges and universities exemplifies the type of leadership we need to secure a brighter future and a safer California.”

Alberto Torrico’s candidacy for Attorney General is also supported by the 300,000-member State Building and Construction Trades Council of California, the 120,000-member California Federation of Teachers, the 62,000-member Peace Officers Research Association of California, the 30,000-member California Professional Firefighters and the 1,400-member California Police Chiefs Association.

Torrico has also earned the support of a diverse and active coalition of supporters, including Congressmember Linda Sanchez, Congressmember Joe Baca, Senator Ellen Corbett, Assemblymember Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Warren Furutani and Assemblymember Felipe Fuentes.
