Attorney General Candidate Alberto Torrico Earns

Another Major Labor Endorsement

Sole Endorsement by the State Building and Construction
Trades Council of California further
strengthens Torrico as the choice of law enforcement and labor

SACRAMENTO, CA – The State Building and Construction Trades Council of California (SBCTC) announced today that it has endorsed Alberto Torrico for Attorney General. In the wide-open race, Torrico has emerged as the candidate with the most powerful message, most active campaign and strongest coalition of education, public safety and labor support.

The 300,000-member strong SBCTC joins other major unions throwing their support behind Torrico, including the 120,000-member California Federation of Teachers and the 40,000-member Operating Engineers Local 3.

Torrico has already solidified his position as the choice of California law enforcement, with the endorsement of the Peace Officers Research Association of California, the California Professional Firefighters and the California Police Chiefs Association.

Through advocacy in both the public and private sectors, the SBCTC seeks to improve the health, job safety and economic conditions of California and all working men and women in the construction industry.

“All of the candidates the State Building Trades Council interviewed for Attorney General were of a very high caliber,” said Bob Balgenorth, President of SBCTC. “One candidate stood out from the rest because of his long and consistent record, stretching over two decades, of close work with and for our members. The 300,000 members of the State Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO are proud to endorse Alberto Torrico for Attorney General.”
“I am honored to have earned the support of the dedicated men and women who built California,” said Torrico. “SBCTC members understand that the key to rebuilding California is investing in our schools, our people and our economy.”

In a race where all the major AG candidates are within $100,000 of their nearest competitors in fundraising, institutional support will make the difference. And, Alberto Torrico – with his growing list of supporters – has emerged as the candidate with the strongest and best-organized institutional support.

Alberto Torrico’s polling numbers also show that after hearing Torrico’s background and message, voters move to him quickly – leaving Torrico in first place in the field for Attorney General. After hearing about Torrico’s positions, he leads the field with 31 percent of the vote.

Alberto Torrico is the California Democratic Majority Leader and is the Chair of the Select Committee on Prison Reform and Rehabilitation.
